This event will provide resources for employers and LGBTQ employees to help them create safe and inclusive workplaces. Employers will learn about ways to improve their policies and retain LGBTQ talent, while LGBTQ employees and allies will learn about their rights and strategies for creating effective LGBTQ employee resource groups (ERGs).
“For many of us, our workplace is where we spend most of our lives outside of our home,” One Iowa Executive Director Daniel Hoffman-Zinnel said. “If we don’t feel safe and respected there, it has a negative impact on our entire lives. Our goal for the 1st Annual LGBTQ Workplace Culture Summit is to develop more inclusive workplaces for LGBTQ Iowans through collaboration with employers, LGBTQ employees, and allies.
“In Iowa and around the world, we’re focused on helping people live their best lives,” Heather Schott, Assistant Director of Diversity & Inclusion at Principal, said. “We believe that our success depends on everyone’s unique backgrounds and experiences coming together by sharing and learning to enrich lives and broaden views. We’re honored to host the 1st Annual LGBTQ Workplace Culture Summit in Central Iowa.”
“At Rockwell Collins, we know that leveraging our differences and maximizing our employees’ perspectives creates a culture of inclusion, increases employee engagement and helps our employees be their best—in our experience, diverse thinking fuels innovation,” Amy Clefisch, principal manager, Workforce and Community Inclusion at Rockwell Collins. “We are honored to participate in the 1st Annual LGBTQ Workplace Culture Summit in Eastern Iowa to focus on the unique perspectives and needs of this dimension of diversity in our workforce.”
BeyondCurious President & CEO Nikki Barua will serve as the keynote speaker for the Central Iowa summit. Recognized for her success as an immigrant, gay, minority woman entrepreneur, Barua is a fierce advocate for diversity as the fuel for innovation. She founded BeyondCurious in 2011 to help large companies innovate like startups and achieve their digital transformation goals. Barua was awarded Entrepreneur of the Year by ACE in 2014, Top Woman Entrepreneur in North America by Ernst & Young in 2015, LA Woman of Influence by The Business Journals in 2016, and Women of Entrepreneurship by LA Lakers and Comerica Bank in 2017.
Heather Schott, Assistant Director of Diversity & Inclusion at Principal, will serve as the keynote speaker for the Eastern Iowa summit. In her current role at Principal, where she has worked for 20 years, Schott is responsible for the diversity and inclusion strategy and initiatives for the company’s global population. She has also worked across business units supporting product development, accounting, actuarial and operational functions. Schott is currently a member of The Conference Board Diversity & Inclusion Leadership Council II and the Greater Des Moines Partnership Inclusion Council.
